In a distressing event in the violence-affected district of Jiribam, Manipur, a 13-year-old student was discovered hanging from the roof of a bicycle parking shed at a relief camp on Sunday. Authorities have confirmed the details.
According to a senior police official, the body of Yurembam Angamba Singh was retrieved from the bicycle parking area of Jiribam Higher Secondary School, which has been designated as a shelter for those displaced due to the ongoing violence.
Singh was a resident of the Lamtaikhunou area in the Borobekra sub-division of the district.
A police spokesperson indicated that initial investigations suggest the boy may have taken his own life on Sunday afternoon. He was transported to Jiribam District Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The minor's remains have been sent to Silchar Medical College in Assam for a post-mortem examination.
The police have registered a case at the Jiribam police station, and an investigation is currently underway. The official noted that the minor had been living in the relief camp with his family since ethnic tensions erupted between the Meitei and Kuki communities in the district.
